Sorry, Online Meeting Declined
The VAR Guy has reached his breaking point. Each week he receives dozens of online meeting invites from vendors. The online presentations often contain lame product pitches, complex diagrams or terrible PowerPoints. Even worse, the online conference software often doesn’t work with The VAR Guy’s Apple MacBook Pro. It’s time to put an end to this nonsense, and reinvent these briefings.
Going forward, The VAR Guy plans to DECLINE the vast majority of virtual meeting invites involving WebEx, Go To Meeting and other on-demand services. Instead, it’s time to return to good-old phone conversations. You know the kind: Vendor describes the news, reporter asks questions, vendor offers deeper insights, reporter takes good notes.
Technology is a tool, folks. And online demonstrations — like the Fonality demo The VAR Guy saw today — can be valuable and engaging. But more and more online meetings are nothing more than lame excuses to push bad PowerPoint slides over the Web. Ouch.
Those days are over. If you want to pitch The VAR Guy, send him an email (thevarguy [at] ninelivesmediainc.com) and set up a phone call. Avoid the temptation to force an online presentation on him — especially if it requires multi-step instructions that don’t support the Mac or Linux.
