Polycom Aims to Slim Down UC Bandwidth Requirements
Solution providers selling unified communications solutions often hear the argument that UC slows down the network with its bandwidth-hogging technology. But a new solution from Polycom aims to make that argument moot.
Just in time for InfoComm, the conferencing and UC vendor has announced its Open Telepresence Experience (OTX) 300, which delivers a collaborative environment including full 1080p video while using up to half the bandwidth of comparable systems.
The reduction is bandwidth is achieved through H.264 High Profile, a new standards-based video compression technology used exclusively by Polycom. The technology enables users to experience videoconferencing without having to go through a large-scale network upgrade.
As with other Polycom technologies, the OTX 300 integrates with all other standards-based telepresence and video conferencing endpoints in use today, and as part of the Polycom Open Collaboration Network, the OTX 300 also integrates with leading UC and networking platforms, beginning with supporting native integration with Microsoft UC environments.
A solution that fits nicely into a network without hogging bandwidth should be an easier sell for the channel. And Polycom’s support of standards-based technology makes the company a natural fit in the UC market.
