MySQL: Big News Coming in October
Paul Weinstein, executive VP of business development at MySQL, tells me the open source database provider will launch a major channel push sometime this October.
And for good reason. CEO Marten Mickos wants to turn MySQL “into a billion dollar company.” Yes, Weinstein admits that “big lofty goal” will require many years to achieve. In many respects, MySQL hopes to commoditize the database market, undercutting Oracle and SQL Server on price. For that to happen, “we really need to build out our systems integrator and value-added reseller channel business.” During our chat, Weinstein touched on additional areas–such as whether MySQL will need to make acquisitions to hit its long-term $1 billion revenue goal.
