Microsoft Almost Forgives Partners Skipping BUILD for Intel
No doubt, holding Microsoft Windows BUILD at the same time as Intel Developer Forum 2011 caused a dilemma for channel pros who’ve partnered up with both companies. But there was a surprise in my IDF goodie bag that’s potentially good news for the Microsoft partners in attendance: the promise of free Windows Server 8 preview and development kits at the Microsoft booth. But you’ll have to be fast — there are only 100 download codes to go around.
There’s plenty of other news coming from both BUILD and IDF 2011 this week. But this is the only one where if partners snooze, they lose. Here’s the transcription of the flyer I found in my bag, odd punctuation choices and all:
“If you’re a Microsoft Partner (Hardware, driver or application developer that supports our ecosystem) and you missed the BUILD event, then visit us at the Microsoft booth (306)
Up to 100 partners will receive access codes to download the Windows Server 8 Developer Preview and Development Kits
The first 25 qualified attendees who visit our booth during each of the four IDF expo sessions will receive an exclusive invitation code to download to developer preview bits and kits, once they were qualified as a Microsoft Partner and have met the qualification criteria.”
So in other words, if you attended Intel’s event instead of BUILD, Microsoft forgives you. But not enough to guarantee a code — between Microsoft’s status as an IDF 2011 sponsor and the size of the audience for the Day 1 keynote (and deeper insights on that coming soon), there’s going to be plenty of competition. So if you’re a Microsoft developer and you’re here with me at IDF, jump on it.
