Lenovo Proving Its Critics Wrong
The VAR Guy is eating a bit of humble pie today. Our resident blogger has openly questioned whether Lenovo could build a successful global PC business. After some hit-and-miss financial results, Lenovo finally showed some strength today with its latest quarterly earnings. Plus, the company shedding the IBM moniker from its PC lineup two years ahead of schedule.
Lenovo seems to be getting its branding right. During a recent stroll through JFK International airport, he noticed massive billboards evangelizing the ThinkPad notebook line. Some of the billboards used ThinkPad as the lead brand. Others used Lenovo. The IBM logo was nowhere in sight. By the time The VAR Guy eased his way through airport security, the “Lenovo” and “ThinkPad” terms were stuck together in his head.
Lenovo also seems to be connecting with customers. The company’s most recent quarterly shipments rose 23 percent, and net income surged 177 percent during the quarter.
