Jaspersoft Debuts HTML 5 Business Analytics Interface
Bringing the latest data analysis technology up to speed with the modern Web, Jaspersoft has announced version 5 of its flagship reporting and analysis platform. Updates include an interface powered by HTML 5, integrated data virtualization and more. Here’s the full story.
Jaspersoft, which traces its roots to 2001, promotes its business intelligence solutions as unique for both their flexibility and accessibility. The Jaspersoft platform is designed to be scalable, allowing it to fit the computational and economical needs of different sets of users. It also works across a range of devices, which ensures access to reports from anywhere.
The latest release continues to build on these core feature areas by introducing a new interface based on HTML 5. Jaspersoft 5 takes advantage of HTML 5 technology to provide robust data visualization and exploration functionality inside the Web browser, achieving performance that has traditionally been available only in standalone analytics clients, according to the company.
Here’s a peek at the new interface in action:
Meanwhile, Jaspersoft 5 also introduces several new features beyond the realm of the interface, including:
- Data virtualization tools for combining separate sets of data into single viewports.
- Columnar in memory data analysis to handle data sets ranging into the terabytes.
- A variety of formatting options for sorting and filtering data.
- Improved OLAP analysis features.
- New tools for server monitoring and diagnostics to assist with administrative tasks.
- PHP connectors for integrating data analysis with Web applications.
Jaspersoft’s niche is a crowded one, with other open source business analytics companies, such as Pentaho, vying for an overlapping customer base. But Jaspersoft is well-entrenched in the channel, and the new features in version 5 of the platform will help it to remain so.
The VAR Guy’s prediction in 2011 that Red Hat might buy Jaspersoft has not yet proven true, but the company remains a player to watch as business analytics solutions continue to evolve to meet the new challenges of Big Data and the cloud.
