IT Distribution Roundup: Avnet and Ingram Micro
Here's the roundup:
The VAR Guy is always busy, but that doesn’t mean he’s not keeping tabs on the distribution scene. Here’s the weekly IT distribution roundup, this time featuring the rundown on Avnet’s presidential shifts and Ingram Micro’s new channel resources …
Here’s the roundup:
- Avnet: KP Tang will officially be retiring as president of Avnet’s Asia Pacific Technology Solutions and William Chu will assume the role. Chu has been with Avnet since 2007 when Avnet Acquired IBM distributor Azure Technologies, of which Chu was a part. As president, Chu is expected to use his 21 years of IT managerial know-how to continually push Avnet’s Asia Pacific growth across the entire region. According to the release announcing his position, “[u]nder Chu’s tenure, Avnet Technology Solutions, ASEAN’s revenue has increased 400 percent.” Chu’s presence will be felt in Australia, New Zealand, Chin, India, Hong Kong, and various other “ASEAN” countries. Chu will be report in directly to Phil Gallagher, who currently sits as president of the Global Division of Avnet Technology Solutions.
- Ingram Micro: Ingram Micro recently hosted the ArchiTECHS Invitational in Las Vegas. But the distributor did more than host a party; it unveiled “four new partner-led peer groups focused on business acumen, digital signage, high-performance computing and managed services.” Members and experts who are part of the “System ArchiTECHS Council” headed up breakout sessions based on the aforementioned groups, hoping to give partners an edge in finding “sustainable growth” along with information on how the partner community could stay “ahead of the curve.” Ingram Micro believes partners who attended the event could see an uptick in business through Q4 of 2011 and into 2012 based on the amount and type of information offered at the event. Hmm, The VAR Guy may be impressed if partners were able to take away that many skills.
