HP Adds Velocity to t410 Smart Zero Clients

In business environments where workspace is tight and IT budgets (and time) are limited, thin clients can be an ideal solution. Hewlett-Packard (HP) (NASDAQ: HPQ) is reaching out to those businesses with an extension of the Smart Zero Client family, offering the t410, which runs a virtual desktop that can be configured to run Citrix (NASDAQ: CTXS), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) or VMware (NYSE: VMW) environments.

The t410 uses auto-sensing technology to locate the host server in the data center and download the latest software updates as they occur. The t410 needs only one cable, using Power over Ethernet technology to reduce energy costs (and clutter).

Feature-wise, the t410 runs on a Texas Instruments ARM Cortex processor and includes 1GB of SDRAM, 2GB eMMC Flash memory capacity and support for dual displays.

Designed to improve the overall network experience, HP’s Velocity software, installed on both the HP thin client and the server in the data center, helps IT managers track network activity and optimize network performance and end-user experience in real time.

In addition, Velocity’s network-monitoring tools allow IT administrators to capture information in a log file, detect what’s affecting the network or causing lag, and correct the problems.

The t410 Smart Zero Client will start shipping in August with pricing starting at $269, according to HP. Velocity is available worldwide as a standard feature on the t510 Thin Client and t610 Flexible Series Thin Clients. It will be available on the t410 Smart Zero Client and t410 All-in-One Smart Zero Client beginning in August.
