Exinda Gives Branch Office Performance an Edge

WAN optimization and application performance specialist Exinda has launched Edge, an application performance assessment platform aimed specifically at organizations with branch offices.

For businesses with limited onsite IT and bandwidth resources, connecting satellite facilities with private and public cloud applications can prove useful, but as branch networks become more complex, optimization specialists must offer a more intelligent approach to optimization, combining app acceleration with usage profiles to offer enhanced performance assessment.

Edge utilizes Exinda’s 360 Dynamic Policy Engine, which adds user, application and contextual profiling and containment to traditional WAN optimization services, along with Microsoft Active Directory integration and Audit to Assurance capability.

Here’s how it works: The platform consists of application packs — targeted collections of Layer 7 application signatures — that are optimized for the applications that have the biggest impact on the business (think Salesforce.com, Skype or WebEx).

By providing a number of different metrics, or key performance indicators (KPIs) to observe and understand how healthy their network is, coupled with a window into what applications are running on that network, Edge provides network administrators with a simplified process that can go along way to saving budget-conscious companies time and money.

And through a combination of that simplicity and the ability to fine-tune application performance based on a particular company’s needs, resellers can better explain (and sell) the reasons why application optimization is increasingly beneficial business investment.
