EMC Acquires Syncplicity, Releases Enterprise Storage Line

Business information and storage specialist EMC (NYSE: EMC) wasted no time rolling out announcements at its EMC World 2012 conference, launching a whopping 42 products focused on the hybrid cloud and acquiring cloud-based sync and share file management provider Syncplicity.

Syncplicity, which will be integrated into EMC’s Information Intelligence Group portfolio, provides native cloud-based sync and share capabilities designed for the enterprise. Its solutions help companies manage, sync, share and backup files.

EMC also introduced the VMAX line of enterprise storage arrays, consisting of the VMAX 10K, VMAX 20K and the VMAX 40K, which leverages up to 32 2.8GHz Intel Xeon 6-core processors, as much as 2TB of mirrored (1TB usable) and ECC-protected DDR3 DRAM.

In addition to hardware releases, EMC also deepened its partnership with virtualization specialist VMware (NYSE: VMW) to integrate EMC’s VNX storage intelligence with the analytics of VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite.

The platform, expected to be available in the second half of 2012, offers capabilities such as storage performance, capacity optimization and SLA improvement through analytics and diagnostics.

The VNX unified storage systems will also be integrated with the vCenter Operations Management Suite via the VNX Connector, enabling an end-to-end view of IT infrastructures with VNX storage.

If that wasn’t enough news for you, EMC also unveiled the Avamar deduplication system and software, which focuses on backup and recovery needs. Avamar 6.1 deduplication software provides backup and recovery for VMware environments, with new support for SAP, Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and enhanced support for Oracle.
