Distribution Watch: Westcon, GTDC, Synnex

Greetings, and welcome to this week’s Distribution Watch, where we highlight what’s going on with those distributors we all know and love. This week we’ve got news from Westcon, the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) and Synnex (NYSE: SNX), so if you’re ready, let’s get watching.

Westcon: It’s always a good thing with an IT distributor offers a complete ecosystem around a particular technology, and Westcon recently announced it’s doing just such a thing with the Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Lync environment. The distributor is now offering bundles and special offers of hardware qualified for Lync.  Westcon’s inaugural bundle will include technologies from Polycom (NASDAQ: PLCM), AudioCodes, Jabra and Acme Packet.

This new offering expands a program Westcon implemented in EMEA a few months ago.

The distributor also announced it has expanded its security portfolio from Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) with the addition of HP Fortify and HP TippingPoint solutions to its global security portfolio.

HP’s ArcSight security technology already was part of Westcon’s line card, and adding Fortify and TippingPoint rounds out Westcon’s commitment to offering the full complement of HP’s Security Intelligence and Risk Management (SIRM) platform, according to the company. Westcon said plans to add all the technologies to its LEAP Centers.

GTDC: The organization of global distributors has tapped Rick Hamada, CEO of Avnet, Inc., (NYSE: AVT) as the organization’s chairman. Hamada takes over the position held by Tech Data (NASDAQ: TECD) CEO Bob Dutkowsky, whose two-year tenure ends when September comes to a close.

Over the past year, Hamada has served as vice chairman of the GTDC, where he helped lead the GTDC’s strategic direction and governance.

Congratulations to my fellow Phoenix compadre.

Synnex: SAP America has joined the family: Synnex is one of the first distributors in the United States to join SAP’s PartnerEdge program for authorized resellers, enabling it to offer mid-market and enterprise resellers SAP solutions, including some that were previously not available in distribution. With the addition of SAP solutions and software, Synnex resellers now have the ability to deliver streamlined billing, consolidated quoting and order processing solutions to their customers, according to the distributor.

“Our partnership with SAP greatly enhances our analytic and database product offerings along with our mobility portfolio, leading to an overall substantial development in our business intelligence solutions,” said Peter Larocque, President, U.S. Distribution at Synnex.

And that’s this week’s Distribution Watch. Check back next week for the latest in distribution doings. Until then, stay alert.
