Distribution Watch: Tech Data, Avnet
Don’t look now, but here comes this week’s Distribution Watch, our weekly collection of doin’s in the distribution space. On this week’s watch list are Tech Data (NASDAQ: TECD) and Avnet (NYSE: AVT), so hold on tight and let’s see what we can see.
Tech Data: Big news from Tech Data this week: First, the distributor announced it has added Intermedia, provider of cloud services to SMBs and the world’s largest provider of hosted Microsoft Exchange, to its StreamOne Solutions Store.
Intermedia offerings currently available in the StreamOne Solutions Store:
- Intermedia Standard: a full-featured Exchange plan with included backup and storage, ideal for resellers looking to build upon and package their own services and support.
- Intermedia Advanced: an unlimited Exchange mailbox that includes mobility, backup and collaboration features.
- Intermedia Elite: an unlimited Exchange mailbox plus Lync, SharePoint, and additional usage for backup, collaboration, and more.
“Adding Intermedia to the StreamOne Solutions Store gives our resellers access to a secure hosted email solution,” said Stacy Nethercoat, vice president of Software Product Marketing at Tech Data. “Intermedia’s private-label model provides a fast, reliable and profitable way to enter the cloud, allowing our resellers to offer their end-user customers an entire suite of cloud services entirely under their own brands at their own price points. Resellers are also able to own the billing and bundle additional products and professional services.”
The distributor also announced that it has appointed William Brooks to vice president of Sales, Technical Services. In this role, Brooks will lead Tech Data’s TechEDG government services team and TechMED healthcare services team, as well as the Company’s TDEducation reseller training and certification services, TDOnCall technical services suite and pre-sales technical support team. He is also responsible for Tech Data’s Technology Solutions Center.
Before joining Tech Data, Brooks spent more than 25 years at Ingram Micro, most recently as senior director, Technical Support and Customer Service. He was responsible for Ingram’s North American Customer Service organization and Technical Support team.
“We are excited to add an accomplished industry veteran like Bill to our team and are confident that his leadership experience will be an asset to Tech Data,” said Pete Peterson, senior vice president, U.S. Sales at Tech Data. “Bill has been intimately involved with the development of the support approach in the IT channel throughout several decades, and he is extremely customer-focused. His leadership will promote collaboration on our teams, while keeping a strong focus on Tech Data’s customer-centric mentality.”
Avnet: The Phoenix-based distribution behemoth is adding to its ranks with the acquisition of Pepperweed Consulting, an IT enterprise management and integration provider. As an HP Software Elite Partner and winner of multiple HP Partner-of-the-Year awards, Pepperweed Consulting works with channel partners and customers to buy, deploy, support and manage HP IT Performance Suite, Converged Cloud and Insight software stacks.
“The acquisition of Pepperweed supports our strategic focus of expanding our services and software portfolio to help drive growth for both our supplier and reseller partners,” stated Jeff Bawol, president, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas. “The addition of Pepperweed Consulting will complement our industry leading vertical market practices by providing software and services to help our HP reseller partners deliver increasingly complex and customized IT solutions needed by customers in high growth markets such as government, healthcare, energy, financial and retail.”
