BeyondTrust Adds to Managed Security Offerings
Security solutions provider BeyondTrust launched Retina CS 3.5, the latest version of its vulnerability and compliance management platform, which now extends support to managed service providers (MSPs), and also rolled out PowerBroker Mobile, a mobile device management (MDM) platform that integrates context-aware management with vulnerability and patch information.
PowerBroker Mobile, which supports Google Android, Apple iOS, RIM Blackberry and ActiveSync-connected devices, provides remote administrative functions for mobile devices and vulnerability management for applications, operating systems and device configuration.
In addition to enabling mobile governance, risk and compliance (GRC) with rule-driven actions, PowerBroker Mobile provides policy management for virtual private networks (VPNs), email, passwords, device encryption, remote locking GPS tracking and remote wipe.
The first mobile solution is the company’s PowerBroker product portfolio and part of BeyondTrust’s acquisition of eEye Digital Security. Other features include the ability to create rules and take action based on Device Threat Score and Operating System (OS) profiling to determine when a device is out of date and that there’s an update available.
The software-as-a-service offering also provides application permissions to device APIs and functions; an application interface to view assets and applications by risk, new device, dormant, update available or potential rogue connections; and the ability to prescan applications to determine the threat score prior to installation.
The platform could prove particularly useful to organizations implementing bring your own device (BYOD) initiatives but have limited IT resources to enforce security, which is a rising concern for tech departments.
The Retina CS 3.5 offering also extends its support for cloud connectors to IBM’s (NYSE: IBM) SmartCloud, which in turn extends existing support for private cloud VMware vCenter, Amazon EC, RackSpace and GoGrid.
The update also increases the number of smart rules allowing businesses to view resources within the organization such as mail and database servers, domain controllers, new assets and mobile vulnerabilities. With additional processing power and storage capacity, Retina CS can also be deployed as a security appliance.
