Avnet HealthPath Promotes Medical Imaging Solutions

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 — also known as the economic stimulus package — includes $19 billion for health care information technology. Avnet Technology Solutions sees a particularly big opportunity for VARs to focus on storage solutions for medical images and electronic health records (EHR). Here’s how.

Avnet Technology Solutions is now offering a so-called Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) solution through its healthcare solutions practice – Avnet HealthPath. According to an Avnet press release:

“As part of its VNA offerings, Avnet’s partners will now be able to provide Enterprise Medical Image Management Assessment services to their customers. These assessments analyze the medical imaging systems of departments and facilities.”

Avnet also expanded its portfolio of health care-related IT solutions. The new options include:

  • Acuo Technologies: A developer of high-performance software for intelligent medical image management, standards based archiving, data migration tools and services. Acuo has installed over 475 implementations worldwide.

  • DeJarnette Research Systems, Inc.: A developer of “best of breed” medical imaging workflow and medical image management software. The company’s 25 years in the PACS and medical informatics space makes it one of the oldest and most trusted names in the market.

  • TeraMedica Healthcare Technology: The medical informatics company provides software to collect digital medical images from diverse data sources across healthcare systems and manage them in a single patient snapshot.

Avnet certainly isn’t alone in the health care IT market. Rivals like Ingram Micro and  Tech Data also have big health care specializations for their channel partners. And you can be sure the competition is going to heat up — thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

We’ll keep our eyes pealed for the latest healthcare information and trends on this topic.
