Abtech And Pano Logic Deliver “Zero-Client” Virtual Desktop
Abtech Systems, a provider of storage architecture and virtualization services in the enterprise, have joined forces with their manufacturing vendor partner Pano Logic. Their love-child is The Pano System and it’s been hailed as the the “greener answer” to desktop replacement and maintenance. Here’s the deal…
Abtech, along with VMware and Pano Logic, are looking to help companies simplify their entire computing infrastructure. Pano Logic says they’re the leader in zero client desktop virtualization (VDI). In theory, Pano’s offerings potentially eliminate headaches associated with endpoint maintenance, updates and configuration.
One can’t help but think back to terminal emulation with this zero-client. Especially since Pano Logic is boasting that their zero-client has no processor, no moving parts, heck… hardly anything to it at all. It’s less than a pound, rated to last 7-10 years and only consumes 3 watts-per user. What’s more, Pano Logic says the whole thing can be deployed in under an hour. It’s almost too good to be true. So where’s the market for this stuff?
Abtech wants the Pano Logic virtual desktop solution “to be a hit among middle market organizations in health care, education, law, government, manufacturing, banking, and especially to companies that are subject to HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.” That sounds almost like everybody.
The focus here is on savings and great mobility. And of course, the familiarity of a Windows OS experience. And they’re really pushing the bottom line: cheaper cost, more uptime, better mobility, lower maintenance.
Problem is, is it actually cheaper right up front, or only in the long run?
We’ll keep our eyes open on this emerging technology and see if it catches on in the aforementioned markets.
