Ericsson, Intel Security Announce Telecom Managed Security Solutions
Telecommunications operators soon will be able to offer managed security solutions from Ericsson (ERIC) and Intel Security.
These companies today announced an agreement that will enable telecom operators to bundle managed security solutions with the existing services they provide to enterprises. Intrusion prevention system services, email security and web security solutions initially will be available, according to Ericsson.
So what does the agreement mean for telecom operators? Ericsson said that telecom operators can offer managed security solutions “to support their enterprise clients in protecting valuable intellectual property, data, devices and identities.”
“[We] recognize growing demand in the enterprise market for standalone security solutions, and our partnership agreement with Intel Security will allow us to help to meet this demand,” an Ericsson spokesperson told Talkin’ Cloud. “Our combined strengths mean that together we are best placed to make managed security solutions available for telecom operators.”
In addition, Ericsson noted that telecom operators can offer enterprises:
- Local response capabilities.
- Regulatory compliance expertise.
- The ability to combine communications services with security.
Chris Young, Intel Security’s senior vice president and general manager, also pointed out that the Ericsson-Intel Security managed security solutions could help telecom operators protect “well over 3 billion people across the globe.”
Ericsson provides managed services for networks that serve 1 billion subscribers worldwide and continues to explore ways to bolster its IT market presence.
For example, Ericsson acquired a majority stake in Apcera, a San Francisco-based platform-as-a-service (PaaS) provider, in September. The telecommunications company said the addition of Apcera’s Continuum PaaS technology to its portfolio would allow enterprises to deliver complete cloud automation to run all workloads and use cases.
