Rackspace Unveils Managed Security Services Portfolio

Rackspace (RAX) already manages the complexity of cloud environments for customers. Now the cloud infrastructure provider is expanding services to manage security and compliance within those clouds with a new portfolio of offerings.

The company has unveiled a new line of Managed Security and Compliance Assistance services to address data security, the protection of critical business processes, and risk mitigation from potential cyberattacks and threats. Using these services allows Rackspace to work with customers to develop holistic security solutions as well as address compliance requirements for complex, multi-cloud environments, according to the company.

The Rackspace Managed Security offering is designed to detect and respond to advanced persistent threats (APTs) and other types of cyberattacks. The company is supporting the services with a 24/7/365 Customer Security Operations Center located at Rackspace headquarters.

The services provide consultation and deployment of custom solutions as well as ongoing management of a customer’s cloud environment to help detect and respond to threats. These offerings combined can help customers not only detect and deter attacks, but also lower customers' total cost of ownership (TCO) over time, as they preclude a company’s need to develop security operations centers and comparable offerings internally, according to the company.

Perry Robinson, vice president and general manager of Managed Security at Rackspace, said the company is no stranger to the threats to cloud environments, and wants to use its expertise to help companies combat these dangerous scenarios through the new service portfolio.

“Every day, businesses are at risk of being affected by a security threat or data breach. These threats often occur without warning, can be directed at any part of the business, come from anywhere in the world,” and are costing companies considerable money and resources, Robinson said.

Indeed, threats and attacks are “the new normal for companies and represent one of the realities of doing business today as technology becomes the lifeblood of our organizations,” said Brian Kelly, chief security officer at Rackspace, in the release.  He said Rackspace’s knowledge from 16 years of managing IT infrastructure makes it a good candidate to help keep customers’ cloud environments safe.

Security services offered in the new portfolio include host and network protection, security analytics, vulnerability management, and threat intelligence. Rackspace also is offering compliance assistance through the following capabilities: configuration hardening and monitoring, patch and user monitoring, and file integrity management.

Rackspace is gradually rolling out the new services to customers globally from its offices in the United States. More information about Rackspace Managed Security and Compliance Assistance can be found on the company’s website.
