McAfee, working closely with Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) on some fronts, is making four enhancements to its Endpoint Security offerings — which range from Apple iOS 6 support to more encryption capabilities across PCs and Macs. Senior VP Candace Worley described the endpoint security strategy during FOCUS 12, a conference this week in Las Vegas. The VAR Guy has a front-row seat.

Worley described how endpoint diversity (laptops, smartphones, tablets) coupled with data center changes (cloud, virtualization etc.) have created new security challenges and opportunities for channel partners.

The four key enhancements include:

  • McAfee Deep Defender: Upgraded to protect against day zero attacks and Master Boot Record rootkits, which drive many financial and identity theft attacts, McAfee said.

  • McAfee Endpoint Encryption for PC and Mac: This is a full-disk encryption solution that goes beyond McAfee’s previous encryption offerings. Integration with Intel AES-NI and Intel AMT technology. Allows for secure and remote management of powered off or disabled devices including Windows 8 devices. Coming in Q4. Also involves McAfee ePO Deep Command communicating with Intel vPro.

  • McAfee Application Control: This involves how non-whitelisted applications that can be approved by delivering three-level approval technology.

  • McAfee Enterprise Mobility Manager: Now supports Apple iOS 6 and integrates the newest version of McAfee Secure Container for Android 2.0.

For MSPs and VARs, the McAfee-Intel vPro integrations are of great interest. The idea being that McAfee channel partners can remotely manage Intel vPro systems — even if the systems initially are powered down with no local user to turn it on.

Worley mentioned two big McAfee benefits to working with Intel:

  • Have a locked and loaded roadmap for the next 24 months on software, but understand how the software will need to evolve for Intel’s longer-term hardware roadmap.

  • Intel’s commitment to innovation has been a big boost to McAfee, she claimed.

That’s all for now. More from McAfee FOCUS12 a bit later today.
