CenturyLink Joins Dell Cloud Partner Program

Dell has added new IaaS and PaaS offerings to its cloud computing portfolio through a new partnership with CenturyLink and its CenturyLink Cloud organization.

CenturyLink and its recently launched CenturyLink Cloud enterprise cloud hosting services organization have joined the Dell Cloud Partner Program to sell public cloud IaaS and PaaS services through Dell's network of channel partners. The new strategic alliance between the two companies should provide CenturyLink with new opportunities to branch out in its go-to-market strategy while providing Dell and its channel with new public cloud services options to bring to customers.

Through the partnership, Dell partners now have access to CenturyLink's global slate of public cloud services that can be deployed across CenturyLink's global data center footprint. Acting as distributor of CenturyLink's public cloud services, Dell is now able to offer even more choice to its partners as it continues to build up its cloud computing strategy.

"Customers continuously tell us they need choice, flexibility and support in planning, deploying and managing cloud environments," said Jeremy Ford, executive director and general manager of Dell Cloud Services, in a prepared statment. "Those three elements are critical to Dell's cloud strategy and our continued expansion of the Dell Cloud Partner Program."

The alliance is intended to provide Dell's customers with the ability to benefit from CenturyLink Cloud's compute, storage and network services. Each service is available via CenturyLink's web services API and uses a unified management interface common across the portfolio of services. Included in the management interface are "significant automation and orchestration features." Additionally, a PaaS offering based on Cloud Foundry and Iron Foundry is also available.

"Companies want to take the complexity out of deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructures so they can focus on running their business," said Suku Krishnaraj, vice president and general manager of Cloud at CenturyLink's Savvis organization, in a prepared statement. "Our partnership with Dell allows businesses to run the simplest workload to the most complex, demanding application on public cloud environments with ease and confidence to quickly and consistently achieve measurable business results."
