Pano Logic Takes Desktops to the Cloud via Google Chrome

Pano Logic is releasing for general availability the Pano System for the Cloud, designed to provide organizations with a low-cost desktop cloud computing platform with Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Chrome as the interface.

The specialist in zero client desktop virtualization (VDI) claims its System for the Cloud “eliminates the need for a local operating system and central processing unit.” The offering is now available through the company’s global reseller network.

According to the company, Pano Logic wants to reach organizations seeking an alternative to PC-based or thin client models that rely on expensive end user software and hardware. Pano System for the Cloud centralizes cloud computing activities and utilizes a new Pano Zero Client, the G2M, which costs $149. End users access a browser interface and use SaaS or web-based applications to carry out their work.

Pano System for Cloud also eliminates two security risks, according to the company: the endpoint device operating system — “often the target of malicious code” — and the endpoint device storage — “where nefarious applications can hide or proprietary information may be kept and lost if the device were stolen.” In addition, the company noted Google’s Chrome browser has been rated in studies as the most secure.

“Pano Logic is disrupting the economics of enterprise computing and providing a true cloud computing platform for organizations embracing cloud-based productivity applications,” said John Kish, President and CEO of Pano Logic, in a prepared statement. “For those organizations that don’t require a full Windows environment, the transition is seamless with immediate benefits.”

In May Pano Logic launched Pano System 6, which includes Pano Virtual Client (PVC), designed to turn PCs into virtual desktop clients. Version 6 also featured enhanced security through RSA SecureID’s two-factor authentication for Pano Remote users.
