Technology industry veteran John Derrick has been recruited to take on the role of CEO of Jelastic, a provider of PaaS offerings. Derrick will take over the running of the business from Jelastic founder and chief technologist Ruslan Synytsky, who has been appointed CTO.
Jelastic described Derrick as a "renowned, proven business leader of private and public technology companies," and he will be responsible driving Jelastic forward to build out its global vision, operations, market expansion and its strategic channel alliances.
Derrick has more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry and was most recently an adviser for venture capitalists, corporate venture firms and technology companies. During his adviser years, he even served as an interim CEO of a storage company. But Derrick's resume includes working with a variety of technology companies, including Intel (INTC), where he was general manager of the Acceleration Products division, and MIPS Technologies, where he served as president and general manager of the Processor business group and, later, COO of the company.
The transition from startup to flourishing business is a tricky one, and many founders fail to realize their own limitations. One of the common issues is not bringing on someone who really understands how to run and grow a small business. And that's where Jelastic is making a good move.
With an experienced business leader in the captain's chair, Jelastic stands a good chance of accelerating its growth over the next few months and years.
"I'm thrilled to be joining Jelastic during such a pivotal time in enterprise software and cloud computing, and look forward to continue collaborating with the enterprise leaders of tomorrow as we develop the next-generation infrastructures for cloud computing," said Derrick in a prepared statement.
It will be interesting to see how Derrick moves the company forward and, in particular, what plans he has for Jelastic's channel strategy and its partners.
