SanDisk Corporation (SNDK) announced the availability of its X300s SSD, the company’s first ever self-encrypting solid-state drive that will allow enterprise users to protect corporate data with the company’s flash-based technology. SanDisk also introduced a new collaboration of independent software vendors (ISVs) that will make up a network of third-party security software providers to support the new X300s deployment.
The X300s uses TCG Opal 2.0 and Microsoft Encrypted Hard Drive hardware-based encryption coupled with a new SSD administration dashboard to allow for easier audit and compliance management for IT admins. SanDisk noted that enterprise data protection is more vital than ever as thousands of corporate laptops are lost each year, according to Forrester.
“Businesses of all sizes want computers that are reliable, secure, built to last and are easy to support remotely,” said Kevin Conley, senior vice president and general manager, Client Storage Solutions at SanDisk, in a prepared statement. “For the enterprises that deploy hundreds or even thousands of laptops, it’s essential that their IT departments be able to centrally and securely manage these devices. The X300s, designed with SanDisk’s world-class flash, helps corporate IT leaders not only deliver the heightened performance and lower TCO that flash is known for, but also addresses data protection and security needs, without business disruption.”
The company’s new ISV support network for the X300s is made up of companies including McAfee, Microsoft (MSFT), Wave Systems and Absolute Software, among others. SanDisk sait its new ecosystem of software providers will help provide its customers with fully certified solutions to ease their deployment and management for the new SSDs within their corporate environments. The X300s will be compatible with solutions including Absolute SecureDrive, Check Point Full Disk Encryption, Microsoft BitLocker for Encrypted Hard Drive and more. The SSD Dashboard with Wave ESC will be available beginning in June.
“Our X300s SSD ISV ecosystem enables a centralized encryption management solution for scalable and cost-effective deployment of self-encrypting drives,” said Tarun Loomba, vice president of Client Storage Solutions marketing at SanDisk. “These solution providers will allow administrators to encrypt data, institute policies, and audit the end point for compliance. Our breadth of partners also ensures that the SanDisk X300s SSD can be a scalable solution for companies ranging from SMBs to large enterprises.”
