Verizon Secure Cloud Interconnect Adds Amazon Web Services

Verizon Enterprise Solutions is expanding the list of public cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) it supports through its Secure Cloud Interconnect service. The company’s interconnect service now includes Amazon Web Services (AWS) in addition to Microsoft Azure (MSFT), which it already supports.

Verizon is the latest data center and hosting provider to join the ever-growing number of companies supporting private connection cloud services such as AWS Direct Connect. With the addition of AWS Direct Connect to its roster of offerings, Verizon is looking to make it easier for customers to manage multi-cloud environments.

According to the company, the Secure Cloud Interconnect service removes many of the barriers that keep enterprises from adopting the cloud computing model, including scalability, control and flexibility.

“As more organizations look to hybrid computing, SCI offers enterprises a very viable option,” said Thierry Sender, director of Technology at Verizon, in a prepared statement. “The service offers enterprises the right blend of security, private connectivity, performance, simplicity and efficiency while enabling a wide range of applications and use cases for organizations. With SCI, we help enterprises truly take advantage of the cloud.”

Verizon Secure Cloud Interconnect uses AWS Direct Connect for pre-integration of networking and data center interfaces to create a secure, high-performance environment. It’s making connections to AWS Direct Connect available through its Northern Virginia and Silicon Valley data centers, but it plans to extend that to London, Sydney, Singapore and Tokyo by late October.

Secure Cloud Interconnect is one of several data center interconnection services popping up. The Secure Cloud Interconnect service is still ramping up in terms of what public cloud IaaS offerings it is connecting. Its two biggest at the moment are Azure and AWS.

It’s likely Verizon will continue to scale out and expand the interconnection service to include other public cloud service providers over time.
