Intel Channel Chief Dallman Retiring

Steven Dallman, Intel’s (INTC) channel chief and a 35-year company veteran, will retire in two weeks, according to a published report citing a confirming internal company memo.

CRN reported that Dallman, Intel’s ODM Channel Engagement general manager and Sales and Marketing Group vice president, announced his retirement in a note to the chip maker’s Reseller Channel Organization, in which he wrote, "I wanted to personally reach out to all the RCO teams to tell you that, after 35 years at Intel, I will be retiring. This is obviously a big decision, both personally and professionally, but I feel the timing is right, and RCO will be in good hands moving forward."

Dallman handles Intel's worldwide ODM channel engagement and sales efforts, including channel marketing and distribution programs of those designs. His memo is said to have included a successor plan for the RCO, pointing to the ascension of Maurits Tichelman, who currently shares Dallman’s general manager duties and who formerly headed Intel’s EMEA Business Distribution and Reseller Channel Operations, to the channel chief post.

At this point, there is no official word from Intel either on Dallman’s retirement, his replacement or a channel management reshuffling.

In his long career at Intel, Dallman served as RCO worldwide general manager, North America Channel Sales and Marketing director, Americas Region Distribution sales manager, and Northwestern U.S. and Canada regional sales manager. His first job at the company in 1979 was field sales engineer. Prior to joining Intel, Dallman held engineering positions with Hughes Aircraft and Beckman Instruments.

Dallman is said to be a strong voice supporting channel partners inside Intel. In particular, he is regarded as an advocate for custom system builders. Industry trade publications consistently rank Dallman among the top channel executives, with one naming him channel executive of the year in 2005.
