Tech Data Opens New Systems and Peripherals Unit

Tech Data has opened a new Systems & Peripherals business unit, upgrading its former Client Systems and Peripherals business to concentrate on key growth areas.

Distributor Tech Data (TECD) has opened a new systems and peripherals business unit, upgrading its former Client Systems and Peripherals business to focus on key growth areas, including visual solutions, imaging and print, power and energy management, computing and consumer electronics.

The new division, called Systems & PeripheralsIT, will be headed by Wendy Maurer-Linsky, who gains the new title Systems & Peripherals Product Marketing vice president, and some new responsibilities to go along with it. She is tasked with building brands and solutions from the distributor’s core vendors and overseeing dedicated support and resources to help resellers navigate products, programs and sales opportunities.

Tech Data said the “IT” in the group’s name “represents the exponentially powerful service and solutions that Tech Data is dedicated to providing its partners.” The distributor also has given the unit an alliterative theme: “Complete. Not Complex,” which company officials said reflects its strategy and direction—the prevailing idea being to help channel partners bundle peripherals with systems in sales opportunities.

"The new Systems & PeripheralsIT division gives our resellers access to strong, high-growth brands and technologies, while enabling them to leverage merchandising solutions, maximize profitability and deepen relationships with their end user customers," said Joe Quaglia, Tech Data TDMobility U.S. Marketing senior vice president.

"As it is a natural fit to sell a system and complement it with a peripheral, this enables our team, our solution providers and our vendor partners to better capture the opportunities that exist in this space, including expanded merchandising and solutions bundling,” he said. “This new division strategically aligns with the needs of our channel partners, allowing us to leverage our infrastructure with vendors whose products and solutions previously included both Client Systems and Peripherals."

Tech Data said that it has educated the Systems & Peripherals team to handle issues such as go-to-market strategies and tactics, certifications, trainings, installations and content management. The distributor has added the Systems & Peripherals Experience center, which opened about a month ago, to its Solutions Center housed at its Clearwater, Fla., headquarters. Resellers and customers can physically or virtually examine the division’s portfolio at the site. In addition, Tech Data has opened the S&P Solutions Hub website to enable channel partners to communicate online with the distributor’s sales teams.
