Savvis and VMware (VMW) at VMworld 2013 expanded their cloud partnership. Savvis will instances of VMware vCloud Hybrid Service in its North American data centers throughout the rest of 2013 and into 2014. The expanded partnership, which counters Amazon Web Services and Windows Azure, surfaced at VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger's general session keynote.
The expansion of the partnership coincides with the announcement of the general availability of vCloud Hybrid Service. Through the partnership agreement, Savvis will deploy the technology in its data centers in the U.S. and Canada, making Savvis a VMware hosting partner.
"Customers using VMware vCloud Hybrid Service will benefit from our broad portfolio of network, colocation, managed hosting, managed services and cloud services to enable custom IT solutions. Hybrid cloud customers are looking for the kind of secure, low-latency network connectivity solutions that Savvis and CenturyLink can provide," said Jeff Von Deylen, president of Savvis, in a prepared statement.
Savvis and VMware have long partnered, and in the last year only, they have partnered to launch the Savvis Cloud Ecosystem, which focuses on technology partners using VMware's Cloud API, and the global availability of the Savvis Cloud Data Center, which is based on the VMware vCloud Director orchestration platform.
"Building on VMware's longstanding relationship with Savvis, this alliance will enable new and existing business applications to run seamlessly both on- and off-premises," said Bill Fathers, senior vice president and general manager of the VMware Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit, in a prepared statement. "Customers can gain new data center locations for vCloud Hybrid Service and complementary network, colocation, hosting and managed services from Savvis to accelerate their move to cloud."
Savvis has been building up its cloud capabilities and services recently, including the addition of AppFog PaaS to its offerings and the deployment of cloud data center services for complex hybrid cloud solutions. The company also has relationships with such distributors as Avnet Technology Solutions.
