Distribution Watch: Avnet, Synnex

This week's Distribution Watch features the latest news from Avnet and Synnex.

Hello there! If you're interested in the latest distribution partner updates, then you're in the right place. This week we've got the latest news from Avnet (AVT) and Synnex (SNX).

Avnet: Avnet announced a collaboration with IBM during last week’s IBM PartnerWorld Leadership Conference to “increase the development and deployment of Internet of Things solutions” in North America and Europe. The solutions will be based off of the IBM Watson IoT platform, and are expected to help Avnet’s partner ecosystem profit from increasing IoT sales, according to the announcement.

“Developing an IoT solution is incredibly complex and requires deep technical knowledge from a semiconductor level to advanced data analytics running in a data center,” said Patrick Zammit, president, Avnet Technology Solutions, Global, in a statement. “Avnet and IBM joined together to simplify the development cycle at every stage and give our customers the power to unlock the potential of IoT.”

In other news, Avnet Government Solutions also previewed a series of cloud security solutions developed in conjunction with IBM for public sector customers. The Security as a Service (SaaS) solutions provide partners with access to IBM’s security solutions portfolio and are meant to help partners to protect their customers’ endpoints, according to the press release.

“IT security is one of the biggest priorities today for public and private sector leaders,” said Pete Rzonca, vice president of Avnet Government Solutions. “Avnet’s new cloud security solutions will help business partners quickly enhance the security of their U.S. public sector customers’ IT infrastructures, and they stand as another great example of how Avnet and IBM have worked in partnership over the past 30 years to help partners capitalize on high-growth opportunities.

Synnex: Synnex partners in the United States and Canada can now access Aerohive Network’s (HIVE) full portfolio of access points, routers, switches and networking management tools, according to a recent announcement. The collaboration is expected to help Avnet’s reseller ecosystem prepare for increasing demand among customers for IoT-connected devices.

"Our agreement with Aerohive Networks delivers a highly efficient option for resellers to offer to their end-customers to help keep their businesses connected in dynamic environments," said Reyna Thompson, vice president of Integrated Communications at Synnex. "Through a connected platform equipped with the best in cloud networking, Wi-Fi, and applications and insights, Aerohive Networks' solutions allow businesses to increase productivity and efficiency to result in better customer experiences and ultimately, to fuel business growth."

Synnex also announced the dates for its 2016 Public Sector Specialized Training Roadshows, which are being designed to help its solution providers increase their market share among government customers.
