Distribution Watch: D&H, Avnet, Tech Data

This week's Distribution Watch features the latest news from D&H, Avnet and Tech Data.

Hello out there, and welcome back to Distribution Watch! You may be wondering why you’re reading this on a Thursday instead of Friday, but here at The VAR Guy we’ve decided to move our weekly roundup of distributor news to Thursdays to make room for even more great curated content on Fridays.

This week, we’ve got updates from our friends at D&H Distributing, Avnet (AVT) and Tech Data (TECD). So without further delay, let's get started!

D&H: D&H has partnered with XYZprinting to bring the company’s portfolio of consumer-grade 3D printers to customers in the education market. D&H will distribute XYZprinting’s entire product line as part of the deal, which includes 3D printer and scanner hybrids as well as more advanced laser 3D printers, according to the announcement.

Resellers will have access to the XYZprinting portfolio via D&H’s K-12 education offering, which includes online resources and in-person education sessions from the distributor’s Solutions Lab Training Center.

“D&H is a strategic and integral partner for XYZprinting,” said Simon Shen, CEO of XYZprinting, in a statement. “D&H stands out because of its focus on the education vertical, which is crucial for the growth of the 3D printing market. We’re thrilled about D&H’s strength in the K-12 and higher education sectors and look forward to increasing distribution into schools to offer them the most affordable 3D printing solutions.”

Avnet: Avnet Technology Solutions announced an expanded distribution agreement with Veeam Software that will provide resellers in the United States and Canada with access to Veeam’s backup, disaster recovery and virtualization management solutions.

The agreement extends Veeam and Avnet’s five-year distribution relationship in Europe, where the companies have been offering joint solutions to partners since 2009. Avnet and Veeam also began working together in Australia and Indonesia in 2012, according to the announcement.

“Avnet’s expanded relationship with Veeam significantly enhances our converged infrastructure capabilities,” said Sergio Farache, vice president of Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas, Solutions and Strategy group. “Our partners will be able to capitalize on Avnet’s unique position as a distributor of Cisco, HP, NetApp and VMware, to develop Cisco UCS, FlexPod and Vblock—the converged infrastructure solutions that include Veeam’s complementary software technology.”

Tech Data: Tech Data is now carrying the Acer Liquid Leap, the PC company’s waterproof wearable solution.

Acer debuted the Liquid Leap line last year in an effort to combine the fitness tracking activities of wearables such as the Fitbit with the convenience factor of devices such as Android Wear. Tech Data hopes to create demand for the devices in the SMB market with the new distribution deal.

“The Liquid Leap range is really exciting, combining a great set of features with stylish looks and the strength of the Acer brand,” said Mark Glasspool, director of Consumer Product Marketing at Tech Data, in an interview with PCR Online. “They are competitively priced in a market that is growing fast and we see this is an opportunity to bring new customers into the wearables market.”

That's all for now, but we hope to see you back next week for even more distributor-focused goodness. Until then, keep on distributing.
