BTI Systems Nets $6M in Latest Financing Round

BTI Systems, a networking vendor currently focused on the software-defined networking (SDN) and cloud networking market spaces, has secured $6 million in financing a month after announcing the completion of $21 million in funding. Since 2011, the growing SDN vendor has raised more than $60 million in financing.

With plenty of investors—including BDC, Covington Capital, Bain Capital Ventures and GrowthWorks—the company is building its business on the development and sales of “intelligent network software and systems” that service providers can use for cloud services, mobility and Internet video applications.

With the funding it has generated so far, BTI should have the ability to further develop its products and push the importance and benefits of SDN and cloud networking. Not an easy task, considering much of the market is still wrapping its head around SDN, but as the SDN market emerges, BTI could find itself playing an important role in its development and construct a solid business model.

Last year, BTI raised $37 million of its funding, suggesting the company is building toward its next phase. And that seems almost for sure to revolve around its SDN play. It may take a few years, but eventually BTI’s investors could very well see some good gains from their investments as the SDN market grows and slowly becomes commonplace among enterprises.

For the company’s roster of channel partners, which includes both resellers and systems integrators, there is likely a growing opportunity in SDN that’s still in its infancy.

But BTI isn’t strictly focused on SDN—it also sells a variety of metro and regional networking and data center interconnect solutions through its partners. BTI’s product portfolios compliment each other. And SDN and cloud networking are simply a part of what likely will be the next phase in the vendor’s development.
