Cloudera University Launches Hadoop Database Certification

Cloudera, which provides Hadoop-based data management software and training, announced the establishment of the Cloudera Certified Specialist in Apache HBase (CCSHB) credential. Individuals taking the training at Pearson VUE centers and who pass an examination covering Apache HBase, or Hadoop database, will gain the credential.

Existing Cloudera Hadoop-based certifications include the Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop (CCDH) and the Cloudera Certified Administrator for Apache Hadoop (CCAH).

In its release, Cloudera noted the popularity of HBase has grown substantially due to its maturation into an “enterprise-ready data store for low latency access to Big Data.” Currently in private beta, the CCSHB exam costs $145, and will be publicly available on July 1, 2012. It will be available as a single certification or can be packaged with other training and certification offerings. Cloudera is adding a special offer: All attendees at HBaseCon 2012 in San Francisco will receive a voucher to take the exam for 50 percent off the standard price.

Earlier this week Cloudera announced that Hadoop managed services provider MetaScale joined its partner network. Their joint goal is to allow customers to leverage Hadoop while avoiding large expenses for IT resources and skills. In April 2012, Cloudera released the public beta of version 4.0 of its Distribution Including Apache Hadoop (CDH4), which was built with plenty of feedback from enterprise customers and the Apache open source community with a focus on increased security and improved extensibility for high availability and Big Data environments.
