Veeam, which develops backup and management software for VMware (NYSE: VMW) vSphere and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Server Hyper-V environments, is on a roll. The company -- which sells 100 percent through the channel -- is signing up 1,000 customers per month. Plus, Veeam's software can now connect on-premises backup systems to more than a dozen major public clouds -- including Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ: AMZN), Rackspace (NYSE: RAX) and Windows Azure. So what's next?
VP of Product Strategy Doug Hazelman (pictured above) and Software Strategy Specialist Rick Vanover (pictued left) offered some clues during VMware Partner Exchange 2013 this week. Based on that conversation, it sounds like Veeam's current technology portfolio has the potential to disrupt the already competitive backup and disaster recovery market.
Veeam rolled out Veeam Backup Cloud Edition, a cloud-agnostic solution that supports 15 different types of public storage cloud, a few days ago. That means channel partners can help customers to extend their on-premises backup data out to public clouds. And thanks to support for OpenStack, it means partners will be able to move customer data from one OpenStack cloud to another based on real-time needs or changing business scenarios.
Hazelman says Veeam is adding 1,000 new customers per month. And Veeam has grown in a big way since it was founded in 2006 -- going from zero to 58,000 customers globally. Veeam remains privately held, profitable and has grown headcount to 1,000 employees.
Hazelman and Vanover described Veeam's software as modern data protection, built for for virtualization. The company's current solutions include Veeam Backup and Replication, and Veeam One. Customers can also download free versions of some company solutions, including Veeam Backup Free Edition for VMWare and Hyper-V.
Next up, Veeam in Q3 2013 expects to launch version 7 of its flagship software. Talkin' Cloud will be watching to see how channel partners and cloud integrators react to the software.
