Cloud-based file sync and share technology provider ownCloud has raised $4.4 million of a proposed $7 million round of funding. The round of funding was disclosed in an SEC filing this week by OwnCloud.
The funding will be used for the company's sales and marketing, and developer organizations, a company spokesperson told Talkin' Cloud.
"We install directly on a company's server, allowing them to use their choice of storage, public or private as well as all the identity, governance backup and security tools they already have."
The company does not, however, have a channel program, the spokesperson said. However, he said, "there are a number of companies that use ownCloud to provide their customers with private 'Dropbox.' "
The company snagged $2.5 million from backers in November 2012 and $820,000 in December 2011.
