Google (GOOG) on Thursday said government requests for user information in criminal investigations have increased by about 120 percent since the company began publishing reports.
The tech giant made the announcement on its blog early Thursday morning, where it unveiled the ninth update to its Transparency Report. In the report, Google discloses the number of requests it receives from each government in six-month periods.
Google's Transparency Report now includes governments that made less than 30 requests during a six-month reporting period, in addition to those that made more than 30 requests.
"Though our number of users has grown throughout the time period, we’re also seeing more and more governments start to exercise their authority to make requests,"
