EarthLink (ELNK), a managed services provider (MSP) that ranks among the world's Top 100 Cloud Services Providers, has extended its management and monitoring of server and network infrastructure to on premise equipment to enable IT directors to focus on higher priority projects.
EarthLink's offering takes care of the basics for IT directors, including monitoring the servers and network equipment 24x7, completing patch upgrades, and running anti-virus and malware.
EarthLink IT Services Product Vice President John Chapman told Talkin' Cloud in an email that this offering is unique to the market because the company "can offer this product for customers with multiple locations, even spanning different states or large geographic area," adding that the MSP can also support various types of network equipment and servers.
"We do all the things that IT Directors want to do, but frankly because of the demands of their job, just don’t have the time to do," he said. "Our engineers come from IT organizations, so we know that people always have great intentions of doing these things, but these are often the items that get delayed for higher priority projects."
EarthLink's managed infrastructure services are based on its network operations center (NOC), which Chapman said is larger and more scalable than a mid-sized business.
"Because we do this for a lot of companies, we can invest in the best tools and the best people to run them," he said. "That includes tools like IBM’s Tivoli product, Solarwinds, Nimsoft, and TrendMicro."
Chapman said EarthLink has more than 20 years of experience monitoring servers and networks.
"By allowing EarthLink to take on this type of IT management and maintenance, it allows IT directors to focus on the high priority projects that are unique to them and that will drive their business forward," he said. We view it as more of a partnership as opposed to saying we’re more capable."
The MSP expects to launch a new application in 2014 that assists customers with improving their productivity, Chapman said. EarthLink also plans to continue integrating its IT services and network offerings, expanding its management and monitoring service to include the management and monitoring of wireless access points, he said.
"We will also continue to integrate the network and server managed services with our cloud based solutions," he said. "We see customers who use our managed services becoming comfortable with moving their day-to-day IT operations to a provider and can help them when they are ready to transition their workloads to cloud."
Separately, EarthLink also achieved the Cloud and Managed Services (CMSP) Advanced Partner designation as one of Cisco Systems' (CSCO) network of cloud-certified partners back in December 2013.
