Amazon Kindle Tablet News: At AWS re:Invent Cloud Conference?

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at AWS re:Invent should explain potential synergies between Kindle tablets and Amazon Web Services for cloud storage, cloud compute and more.

Will Amazon Kindle tablet surprises surface this week during the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas? On the one hand, CEO Jeff Bezos is expected to offer partners and customers numerous cloud computing updates. But on the other hand, isn't this the perfect opportunity for Bezos to tell attendees how Amazon's tablets could potentially integrate with Amazon Web Services?

Amazon currently promotes three types of tablets:

  • Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G ($499)
  • Kindle Fire HD ($199)
  • Kindle Paperwhite ($119)

For the most part Kindle tablets are consumer devices -- popular for reading books, watching moves and consuming multimedia content. Unlike Apple -- which tries to maximize its hardware and device profits -- Amazon keeps Kindle prices really low to drive adoption and, by association, inspire Kindle owners to buy more products and services from Amazon.

Therein resides the Amazon Web Services opportunity. For software developers there are potential synergies between Kindle and AWS. But overall, Talkin' Cloud hasn't heard much about how VARs, MSPs and other channel partners can potentially profit from Kindle-AWS synergies.

I hope that changes at the AWS re:Invent conference this week. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend continues to accelerate as consumers arrive to work with their personal tablets and smartphones. One could imagine MSPs and VARs wanting to offer cloud storage, security and mobile device management (MDM) services that blanket Amazon Kindle, Google Android and Apple iPad devices.

Will Bezos deliver a Kindle surprise at AWS re:Invent? Talkin' Cloud will be on hand to find the answers.
