Proofpoint Buys Cloud-Based Anti-Malware Provider Armorize

Security-as-a-service provider Proofpoint has expanded its offerings through the acquisition of Armorize Technologies, a provider of cloud-based anti-malware products.

Security-as-a-service provider Proofpoint is extending its cloud-based security capabilities with the acquisition of Armorize Technologies, a provider of cloud-based anti-malware offerings. This comes just less than a month after Proofpoint signed a definitive agreement to acquire Armorize. Details of the transaction were not provided.

Armorize is an interesting company, at least from a security perspective. The company's staff has more than 35 Certified Ethical Hackers on staff, and it specializes in cloud-based threat intelligence, detection of "zero-day" attacks and unknown vulnerabilities, real-time dynamic threat protection and advanced malware detection research.

It's the overall anti-malware theme of Armorize that Proofpoint had its eye on, and it's something the company's channel partners should keep an eye on. Proofpoint is no stranger to anti-malware, but the purchase of Armorize will beef up its capabilities and its staff.

"Proofpoint's acquisition of Armorize strengthens our position in the malware market, one of the most important spaces in the security industry," said Proofpoint CEO Gary Steele, in a prepared statement. "With the Armorize technology, we're taking a fundamentally different approach to solving persistent threats in the cloud, which will truly set us apart and solidify Proofpoint's position in next-generation cloud-based threat detection and malware research expertise."

The most important addition is Armorize's real-time dynamic detection technology for next-generation threats and malware, which Proofpoint will use to enhance its own Targeted Attack Protection product.

VARs and MSPs that work with Proofpoint will have new capabilities to discuss with its existing and potential customers. According to Proofpoint, the channel is pivotal to its success and works with partners to develop, sell, implement and support its solutions.
