It's been several months since Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Citrix (CTXS) expanded their strategic partnership to include cloud computing, but now the fruits of their labors are being revealed. Cisco has integrated Citrix NetScaler into its Unified Fabric Cloud Network Services portfolio, creating new opportunities for both Cisco and its channel partners.
The integration of the NetScaler application delivery controller into Cisco networking equipment and security services was one of the cloud initiatives announced last October at Citrix Synergy in Barcelona, Spain. Since then, the two companies have been quiet regarding the cloud partnership, but now it seems all the hard work has been done for the integration and is ready to go out to market via Cisco's channel partners.
According to the two vendors, NetScaler "will be tightly coupled into Cisco's virtual networking framework to provide superior network service provisioning and performance." It will be sold globally by Cisco VARs and will be supported by the Cisco Technical Assistance Center.
"By partnering with Citrix, we will be able to offer critical application delivery services to our virtual networking and cloud customers on the Nexus 1K platform," said Ram Appalaraju, vice president of products for Cisco's Data Center Group, in a prepared statement.
The announcement of the completion of the integration also came with words of support from Cisco and Citrix partner Dimension Data. According to Jeff Jack, group general manager for network integration at Dimension Data, the integration will provide the solutions provider with "truly integrated network solutions in the data center."
Available in Q3, the NetScaler integration will enable tight stronger application delivery controller capabilities to Cisco's networking, which will have a wider-reaching impact on Cisco's cloud capabilities.
"Both Cisco and Citrix believe that the data center is undergoing a fundamental transformation, driven by cloud, mobility and virtualization. Successfully managing application workloads in these modern data centers requires a flexible, scalable, application-aware network," said Sunil Potti, vice president and general manager of the Citrix NetScaler Product Group, in a prepared statement.
