Appcara to Drive Turnkey SME Cloud App Management Through Channel

A new appliance from Appcara aims to provide a turnkey cloud app management solution for SMEs, and the company will be selling it exclusively through the channel.

Appcara has announced a new appliance designed to provide "cloud app management in a box" for small and medium enterprises. The AppStack Express Appliance is meant to be a turnkey appliance enabling simple management of cloud applications and sold exclusively through channel partners.

The appliance was designed to provide SMEs with an integrated private cloud based on Citrix (CTXS) CloudPlatform and Xen Hypervisor in a compact 3U dual server chassis with integrated flash and hard disk storage. It also provides organizations with access to more than 85 packaged applications through the App Marketplace. According to Appcara, each of the apps are deployable within minutes.

From outside the private cloud, AppStack Express was designed to work with the Amazon (AMZN) Web Services public cloud.

Appcara unveiled the new AppStack Express Appliance at Citrix Synergy Los Angeles. The software included in the appliance includes:

  • AppStack Express software license, with support for app deployments in the integrated Citrix CloudPlatform cloud. AppStack is Citrix Ready Cloud Verified.
  • App deployments in the Amazon Web Services public cloud.
  • Integrated Xen hypervisor virtualization layer.
  • AppStack 3U hardware appliance, with dual redundant, servers hosting AppStack, CloudPlatform and Xen Hypervisors with 20 integrated HDD and Flash disk drives for VM, database and file storage.

"Our customers are leveraging AppStack on top of Citrix CloudPlatform to eliminate scripting," said Sameer Dholakia, group vie president and general manager of the Cloud Platforms Group at Citrix, in a prepared statement. "In doing so, they immediately gain more productivity in provisioning and automated management of a library of internal applications. That is the type of time- and cost-saving gain that causes IT managers in organizations of all sizes to sit up and take notice."

The appliance isn't quite ready for general availability. Appcara plans to release it before the end the second quarter. A free trial of the software is currently available. Upon launch, the appliance will be available only through the company's channel partners.
