FoundationDB has secured $17 million in new funding, bringing total capital raised to $22.8 million. This Series A funding round was led by Sutter Hill Ventures with additional investment from CrunchFund and existing angel investors.
The NoSQL database software company said the funding will "fuel the company's growth in sales and marketing, engineering and support for existing enterprise customers," as well as the development and launch of if its channel program.
FoundationDB Sales and Services EVP Andrew Nash told Talkin' Cloud via email that the company has invested early in building its channel partner ecosystem.
"We are strong believers in channel partners," he said. "We’re playing a long game. We’re not looking for large up-front payments from channel partners. We want to build meaningful, long-term partnerships."
Nash said that the company has already been working with independent software venders (ISVs) and software as a service (SaaS) providers that have chosen FoundationDB as their primary data store. These partnerships will be announced in the near future, he said.
"We’re also working with cloud, infrastructure as a software (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) partners to provide a scalable, fault-tolerant distributed data storage backend for their customers. Given our ACID transaction guarantees and flexible data models we can reduce the time-to-value for our partners and their customers."
Nash said the company will formally launch its channel program in 2014, focusing on "partners who can leverage the core strengths of our technology and bring innovative solutions to customers."
He concluded by revealing how the company will use this funding to build out "the team of people whose mission is to ensure the success of our customers and users.
"Great things to expect from this team include increased customer and community support, new educational resources, more community building events, and tools to help spread the word about FoundationDB’s unique approach," Nash said.
In addition to the new funding, Sutter Hill Managing Director Sam Pullara will join the FoundationDB Board of Directors.
