Cloud-based backup provider Acronis is releasing both activEcho 3.0 and mobilEcho 5.0 today in an effort to unite management with "consumer-grade simplicity" for secure file access, synchronization and sharing on mobile devices.
According to the company, Acronis mobilEcho and activEcho are deployed on-premise to give "IT complete control," unlike consumer mobile device management (MDM) solutions on the market that "provide control over the device and applications, not the files."
MobilEcho, the company's mobile file management (MFM) system, has been updated with the following features: combined and enhanced web administration console; tiered web console permissions; simplified deployment and access to servers and volume; audit logging; and designated expiration for access to content.
Acronis added a redesigned user experience that allows the sharing of single files as well as entire folders; and new user and admin sharing controls to activEcho 3.0.
Additionally, both products also now include the Acronis Policy Engine, which enables administrators to set security and management policies.
Acronis Product Management Vice President Anders Lofgren told Talkin' Cloud via email that these new versions "share some common technologies that makes life easier for both the administrator and user point of view."
"We are introducing a new common management console for both products," he said. "We have also introduced the Acronis Policy Engine, which allows administrators to set security and management policies at a very granular level."
With regards to the channel, specifically, Lofgren said these new versions "introduce greater simplicity for the enduser," making "life simpler for the people selling your products."
"So to that end, the common management console and the Policy Engine engine offer greater functionality and flexibility for the administrator, while also streamlining overall management," he said.
