Skytap, a Seattle-based environments-as-a-service (EaaS) provider, today added a copy to region capability and departmental quotas and chargebacks to its cloud solution.
The company said the new Skytap Cloud features are designed to drive enterprise collaboration and productivity.
Customers use Skytap to manage, import, deploy and decommission on-demand environments, according to the company.
Skytap Cloud also enables end users to create cloud-based virtual environments in seconds and run applications without code changes.
How do the new features work?
The Skytap cloud solution's copy to region capability now allows development and testing teams to "follow-the-moon," the company said.
"The addition of Skytap's copy to region capability immediately solves the fundamental obstacle in achieving follow-the-sun software development -- the ability to quickly pass exact replicas of complex environments back and forth," Brian White, Skytap's vice president of products, said in a prepared statement. "By removing the pain of accessing centrally located environments, Skytap enables enterprises to immediately increase the productivity of their globally dispersed teams."
Skytap noted this capability can make it easier for IT professionals to clone applications and share them with another data center.
And this data center can then "follow-the-sun," Skytap said, because it is automatically working with the latest environment needed to move a project forward.
"You lose an entire day when someone can't reproduce a defect," Andy Wright, Skytap's vice president of marketing, told Talkin' Cloud. "This is much more efficient."
The new release enables IT professioanls to set quotas at the departmental level and delivers "an easy way to apply chargebacks for global cloud dev/test lab consumption" as well.
Skytap noted departmental quotas deliver a simplified, scalable rollout of dev/test labs to global teams across different lines of business, which can help reduce administrative costs.
