DigitalOcean Passes One Million Cloud Severs Milestone

DigitalOcean has passed the milestone of one million cloud server creations two years after launching the platform.

Cloud hosting platform provider DigitalOcean has passed the milestone of one million cloud server creations two years after launching the platform.

Additionally, the company said it now has more than 150,000 customers and is growing faster than Amazon (AMZN).

DigitalOcean CEO Ben Uretsky said in a statement that his company has been making improvements to its cloud infrastructure for developers across the globe.

"As we roll into 2014, expect continued growth and upgrades to create a superior experience within the industry for our users," he said.

The platform will expand its server capacity in the next few months, the company said. DigitalOcean said it plans to add new domestic and international locations, switching from the legacy IP address standard IPv4 to IPv6 and rolling out features such as object storage, content delivery network (CDN), and one-click installs of common frameworks.

The news builds on the company's momentum last year. DigitalOcean unveiled a new Amsterdam data center in December 2013 to expand its footprint in Europe and offer its shared private networking technology to the region.

Here's some food for thought: As DigitalOcean continues its growth and acquires more customers, will the company develop a partner program for channel partners?
