ActiveState Launches Stackato Partner Program

ActiveState is launching a partner program tailored around its Stackato enterprise private PaaS designed to make it easy to deploy, manage and monitor cloud applications.

Private PaaS provider ActiveState has created a channel partner program around its Stackato offering. The new program will enable partners to work with ActiveState to promote and endorse Stackato as a component in an integrated technology solution.

Kicking things off, ActiveState has signed two partners from the OpenStack community. Both Cloudscaling and Cloud Technology Partners, as well as cloud IT services provider BestIT, are the first partners to sign up for the Stackato Partner Program. Endorsement is all well and good, but what will this mean for partners and their margins? Resale options are avaialble to partners, but exactly how that will play is a bit unknown at the moment.

"Envisioning, establishing, and engaging a broad ISV and VAR partner community is essential to serving private cloud needs," said ActiveState CEO Bart Copeland in a prepared statement. "Cloudscaling, Cloud Technology Partners, and BestIT are innovators and leaders, making them ideal partners for delivering the Stackato technology platform to enterprise cloud customers."

Collaborating with partners already heavily involved in the OpenStack space is likely to open up new opportunities for ActiveState and its Stackato PaaS. Cloudscaling is a provider of "reliable, scalable and production-grade solutions for elastic cloud infrastructured powered by OpenStack." According to Randy Bias, CTO and co-founder of Cloudscaling, Stackato will enable Cloudscaling to offer a broader integrated solution that's deployable in customers' data centers "and under the IT team's control."

As for Cloud Technology Partners, it provides enterprises with vendor-independent consulting, implementation and technology services to plan and execute the migration of business processes, applications and data to cloud computing models.

"Stackato from ActiveState delivers on the promise of enterprise PaaS, and it aligns with our core principle for minimizing vendor lock-in because it can be deployed on any cloud infrastructure—public or private," said John Treadway, vice president of Cloud Technology Partners, in a prepared statement. He noted that Stackato complements Cloud Technology Partners' growing OpenStack infrastructure practice.
