Tech Data Launches StreamOne Cloud Store for VARs

Tech Data, as part of its TDCloud initiative, is launching an app store of sorts to help channel partners source cloud services. It’s called the StreamOne Solutions Store. Tech Data has high hopes that this shape the way software is distributed down the channel. Read on for some more details…

The Tech Data StreamOne Solutions Store isn’t Tech Data’s first rodeo with the StreamOne Solutions program. Due in part to the apparent success Tech Data has reported with the StreamOne Software License Selector, Tech Data claims it used the momentum to create the Solutions Store for ISVs and cloud vendors. It’s like iTunes for SaaS, PaaS and IaaS…sort of.

Why is this a big deal? Tech Data has over 60,000 VARs under its belt. Many of those VARs are striving to master cloud computing. Plus, Tech Data needs to respond to the Ingram Micro Cloud — a rival platform that aggregates cloud applications for channel partners to source. Check our sister site, TalkinCloud, for additional perspectives soon. There, you’ll find some exclusive details on how the Tech Data and Ingram Micro cloud strategies differ.

TechData’s Solutions Store will debut sometime in the fall of 2011. It will serve as a central repository for billing, making managing and provisioning cloud applications. Can it get sweeter? Maybe. Tech Data says that in the spring of 2012 VARs can actually create a white-labeled version of the Solution Store, creating a mini-shop for VARs to point prospective customers, all available on a VARs homepage.

In the meantime, software developers can jump in early and submit their applications to appeear in the StreamOne Solutions Store.
