HP Launches Recycled t5570e Thin Client

The t5570e comes with Windows Embedded Standard 7 installed in addition to support for Remote FX, VMware View, Microsoft RDP and Citrix ICA. It’s Wi-Fi-ready (though optional), features six USB ports and supports dual digital displays.

This little thin client is Energy Star-qualified and outfitted with a BFR/PVC-free case made from more than 30 percent recycled plastic. HP is aiming the device where PC-like services need to be deployed without the bulk of a PC, and in this case, specifically financial and government institutions, since the t5570e supports an optional Smart Card reader for end-point security. These units also might fit in nicely anywhere a company is being urged to “go green.”

Even though HP boasts more customers go with HP Windows-based thin clients than “the next five competitors combined,” there are a lot of thin client solutions out there in the channel right now. Pano Logic, NComputing and even Microsoft’s Thin PC come to mind. So with a price point of $300 to $400, how will the t5570e compete? More importantly, are companies willing to buy an t5570e just to go green when there are cheaper solutions to virtualization?
