The companies announced the start of launch of two new initiatives on Tuesday, both of which are are aimed at helping customers to simplify their mobile security management efforts. VMware said the alliance is also expected to help customers implement advanced security solutions across any of their devices, including smartphones and tablets, whether data is housed on premises, in an endpoint or in the cloud.
Through the partnership, VMware has joined the Intel Security Innovation Alliance, giving customers access to mobility data through the McAfee Data Exchange Layer. By combining AirWatch with Intel Security’s solutions, the companies are looking to help customers increase the value of their security investments and reduce operational costs while improving resolution time, according to the announcement.
"This partnership with Intel Security will help deliver more a complete mobile security solution and affirms our commitment to making the shift to the mobile-cloud era seamless for our customers,” said Noah Wasmer, vice president of Mobile Engineering and Product Management, End-User Computing at VMware, in a statement. “Through McAfee Data Exchange Layer, enterprises will be empowered to communicate essential threat intelligence that can help drive faster response and remediation."
Similarly, Intel Security is now a member of the AirWatch Mobile Security Alliance, which acts as the EMM provider’s initiative to streamline customers’ business mobility solutions.
“The VMware and Intel Security partnership is an integral part of our mobile security strategy and is an important step toward improving our mutual customers' threat defense lifecycle and providing better data protection, regardless of where that data resides or travels," said D.J. Long, head of the Intel Security Innovation Alliance.
In June, Intel Security and VMware collaborated on the release of an integrated solution that paired the VMware NSX network virtualization platform with Intel Security’s McAfee Network Security Platform.
