GigaFin Dives Into Managed Services Market

GigaFin, a 40-person networking start-up, is swimming aggressively into the managed services market. The company, formerly known as Mistletoe Technologies, is joining the MSP Alliance, launching a new partner portal, and introducing a management console to help managed service providers remotely administer customer networks, according to company representatives.

During a brief phone chat yesterday, GigaFin CEO William Thomas and Director of Marketing Mervyn Alamgir provided MSPmentor with a quick overview of the company.

GigaFin's appliances monitor network traffic based on the NetFlow--an open but proprietary network protocol developed by Cisco Systems . It's designed for collecting IP traffic information.

As they gather network information, GigaFin's appliances can limit the amount of bandwidth consumed by peer-to-peer applications, while assigning bandwidth to business-critical applications.

MSPs can write scripts to plug GigaFin appliances into an overall managed services framework, according to Thomas. Alamgira also points out that the company is 100 percent channel focused.

GigaFin plans to stay quite vocal in the weeks ahead. The company expects to make more managed services-related announcements at a managed services conference later this month in Atlanta.
