1. What is a Cloud Services Brokerage?
According to Gartner Inc., a cloud services brokerage offers three capabilities:
- Cloud Service Intermediation: An intermediation broker provides value added services on top of existing cloud platforms, such as identity or access management capabilities.
- Aggregation: An aggregation broker provides the “glue” to bring together multiple services and ensure the interoperability and security of data between systems.
- Cloud Service Arbitrage: A cloud service arbitrage provides flexibility and “opportunistic choices” by offering multiple similar services to select from.
2. How big is the Cloud Services Brokerage (CSB) market?
The Cloud Brokerage Enablement market will grow from $225.42 million in 2013 to $2.03 billion by 2018, at a CAGR of 55.3%. Cloud Brokerage Enablers are software platforms that enable such services. The overall, global Cloud Brokerage market will grow from $1.57 billion in 2013 to $10.5 billion by 2018. This represents a CAGR of 46.2% from 2013 to 2018, according to MarketsandMarkets, a research firm.
3. What are some example Cloud Services Brokerage (CSB) company names?
Many companies on our Top 100 Cloud Services Provider (CSP) list are CSBs. Examples from the overall CSB market include:
- Appirio, which offers integration services for Google Apps, Salesforce.com and WorkDay, among others.
- AWS Marketplace from Amazon.com.
- BlueWolf, a cloud aggregator.
- Cloud Compare, which claims to be Ireland's first CSB.
- CloudMore, which offers cloud services aggregation and activation through partners. The company serves the UK, Sweden, Finland, Noway, Denmark, Ireland, and more. Key partners include IBM, Microsoft, HP Autonomy, VMWare, Soonr, and Crytpzone. CloudMore claims to serve more than 1,000 partners, which in turn have 100,000 end-users.
- Cloud Nation, a Seattle-based cloud solutions aggregator focused on SMB resellers. Key partners include D&H.
- Clouditalia, a telco that leveraged Cordys software to launch a CSB platform. It has attracted 600 partners as of March 2013
- Cloud Sherpas, which claims to be the world's top CSB providing Google Apps, Salesforce.com and ServiceNow brokerage services.
- Comcast Upware, an online marketplace for business-class applications.
- CompatibleOne, which claims to be the first open source CSB.
- ComputeNext, which offers a cloud services brokerage marketplace.
- Cordys, a software platform for cloud broker enablement
- Dell Boomi, a cloud integration platform.
- DirectCloud, a division of DirectDial.com. They are based in Canada, working closely with Office 365, SherWeb and Adobe Creative Cloud for teams.
- DoubleHorn, an Austin, Texas-based Cloud Solutions Provider that offers secure and compliant cloud solutions for government, enterprise and education sectors.
- Excel Micro, a SaaS distributor.
- Gravitant makes the cloudMatrix CSB platform.
- Green Cloud Technologies is 100 percent channel, promoting virtual servers, disaster recovery and network services to VARs and MSPs.
- GXS Trading Grid is a B2B e-commerce platform for cloud services.
- HP Aggregation Platform for SaaS: This is a platform for building a CSB business.
- Ingram Micro Cloud, a cloud services aggregator platform for VARs and MSPs.
- InfoSys, which offers a Cloud Ecosystem Hub.
- Issal, which claims to be the No. 1 cloud services provider (CSP) in North Africa (we can't confirm that independently). Issal partners with Google Apps and Asigra, and also rents resources atop a VCE platform.
- Liaison Technologies, which acquired the Hubspan cloud integration platform in 2012.
- Nephos Networks claims to be the first cloud broker in Latin America (we have not independently confirmed that. The company provides SaaS-based business applications to the SMB market. Early investors include Nexsys, a major software distributor in the region. The company leverages Parallels Automation, Verizon Terremark and Windows Azure. The company is established in Florida (United States) for legal advantages.
- Nephos Technologies, a cloud services brokerage in the UK.
- Nervogrid. As of mid June 2013, the company had more than 200 channel partners across Europe. Nervogrid is adding more than one partner per day, and the number of end users per month is growing at about 45 percent.
- Nuvotera, which was built by an MSP (inhouseIT) to help channel partners source and manage multiple cloud applications for customers. Launched in November 2013, Nuvotera formerly was Spam Soap.
- Rackspace Cloud Tools Marketplace.
- The Rype Group was founded in 2009, and is an Australian Cloud Broker and SaaS integration training and support provider. The company partners with Google, Box, Apple, and more.
- SaaSMax, an online SaaS application marketplace for channel partners.
- SoftChoice Cloud. Softchoice a large solution provider based in Canada. In July 2012 the company launched its cloud offering. SoftChoice wants to help internal IT professionals to become internal cloud services brokers.
- Synnex CloudSolv, a cloud services aggregator platform for VARs and MSPs.
- Tech Data TDCloud, a cloud services aggregator platform for VARs and MSPs.
- Verio, which offers a CSB platform called VerioCatalyst.
- VirtaCore. The company specializes in disaster recovery and Google Apps. The company's architecture is built atop Cisco UCS FlexPod and VMware vCloud Suite.
