Avanade Cloud Services Manager: Private, Public Cloud Management?

Avanade has launched Cloud Services Manager, an extension to Microsoft System Center 2012 that allows customers to manage virtualized environments (VMware, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V) across private clouds and public clouds — including Amazon Web Services and Windows Azure.

According to Avanade: “Cloud Services Manager delivers a single view of all private cloud services that is automatically customized for a person’s role, giving them the most relevant information to scale up or down a private cloud service.”

No doubt, thousands of VARs and MSPs are seeking a single dashboard to manage public and private clouds. But Avanade is an MSP (managed services provider) in its own right. I doubt the company will sell or offer Cloud Services Manager to third-party MSPs (but I’ve asked the company if that’s the case and will update this blog when I receive an answer).

Avanade was originally funded by Microsoft and Accenture in 2000 to focus on Microsoft-centric consulting services — such as Windows Server and Exchange Server deployments. These days, Avanade is a subsidiary of Accenture.

Avanade says the Cloud Services Manager solution “brings together multiple self-service activities, such as provisioning or changing new services and monitoring costs.” A drag-and-drop user interface, Avanade says, can help customers to design and validate private cloud services more quickly.

Among Avanade’s key focus areas for the tool: Delivering CRM solutions via public, hybrid or private clouds.
