Carbonite made headlines earlier this year when it announced that Carbonite Server Backup plans now support local and cloud backup for Microsoft Exchange Online in Office 365. Later in the year, an article I wrote for Talkin’ Cloud outlining three reasons why your SMB clients should back up Office 365 data generated a great deal of traffic.
Clearly, IT channel partners are interested in bundling backup with Exchange Online and Office 365. But it’s not always easy to explain to your clients why backing up Office 365 is necessary. That’s why we’re going to revisit the topic. Without further ado, here are three more reasons why your SMB clients should back up Exchange Online data in Office 365:
1. The 3-2-1 Backup Rule
The 3-2-1 Backup Rule is a best practice that dictates that SMBs should save at least three copies of data, in at least two different places, with at least one copy of the data stored offsite. An SMB that keeps all of its Exchange Online email data with Microsoft--and nowhere else--is in clear violation of the 3-2-1 Backup Rule. Perhaps more important is the fact that SMBs--especially those concerned about compliance and data security issues--will enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing their data will be accessible no matter what happens.
If an intruder hacks into your Exchange Online account and deletes or changes important emails, you may not be able to get them back into their original state--unless you have a reliable third-party backup solution like Carbonite in place. By backing up Exchange Online data, SMBs also protect against accidental deletions and malicious insiders.
3. Hybrid backup
With a hybrid backup solution like Carbonite Server Essentials or Carbonite Server Advanced, SMBs can back up Exchange Online data to local servers, for the ultimate in speedy recovery, and to the cloud, for that all-important extra layer of protection.
Remember: Bundling is key
Bundling Carbonite products with Microsoft Office 365 and Exchange Online is a great way to increase your profits while offering clients a complete IT solution.
